Radio ShackŪ Cat No.278-792
What standard is 'Type CM' based on?What are the pin designations and wire colors?

Answer by Dmitri Abaimov posted 28 Apr 2000
icon Type CM stands for Communications General purpose cable as per NEC Article 800-50(51). It means that the outer sheath of the cable is made of PVC with some additives that slow down possible flame spread along the cable. It's for indoor use only.
In the vast majority of cases cabling vendors follow coloring scheme that's presented on our site at http://www.cabling-design.com/references/colorcodes/4pair.shtml
