Dear Charles,

The difference is the bandwidth available from the signals traveling through the media. CAT5 has 100MHz bandwidth while CAT6 has 250MHz. That makes it possible to send data quicker, and also more reliably because CAT6 is also less susceptible to cross-talk and reflection loss problems.

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
