Standard setup for voice over Cat5
Your site is excellent!! It's been very helpful in planning the cabling of my house.

My question is....
Is there are a standard setup for voice over Cat5.
Which pair is used? What is the pin configuration?
Is there a name for a cable that plugs the phone into an RJ45 on the wall?

Dear Michael,

The analog voice (standard telephone line) has to be terminated on pair #1 (pins 4 and 5). This way it is possible to insert the telephone plug (RJ11, RJ12) into RJ45 (8-position 8-conductor) jack and pick up the required pair.

Thank you for the warm feedback about the site!

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
