why do we need to use crossover cable in hub to hub connection instead of regular cable?

Dear Adrian,

The crossover cable just connects receiving circuit of one hub to transmitting circuit of another. Very simple but important job.
When you connect NIC to hub, the hub has this crossover inside already.

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
