 outside wire
I have to run 8000 feet of outside plant down the side of a ski trail...do you guys know of anything I can use to hang the cable from the trees, keeping in mind that it is illegal to nail or screw anything to the trees...

Dear Jake,

The mounting solution will greatly depend on what type of cable you use. If it's lightweight fiber optic cable, you can probably use a pair of cable ties - one wrapped around a tree and holding another one, wrapped around the cable.

However, there should be a great precaution taken about how much cable sag you should allow. You will have to look at the trees' load bearing capacity and how much they swing under the wind.

My personal believe is that no matter what kind of mounting you will choose, the trees will be damaged anyway with time due to wind, ice load etc.

So maybe your budget will allow you to build a pole line down the trail?

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
