RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE SIEMON COMPANY

The Siemon Company is a reputable structured cabling systems manufacturer. This company conducted extensive testing of generic Category 5 and Enhanced Category 5 UTP cabling and published the following recommendations and results:

Several cabling channels were setup running 100Base-TX Ethernet protocol and exposed to various noise sources including electric hand drill, transceiver set (154 MHz), fluorescent light fixture and microwave oven. Ethernet packet flow was monitored by a network protocol generator and software. No packet errors was detected for either generic Category 5 or Enhanced Category 5 channels regardless of EMI source type, source location, or duration
of exposure.
