 | Question by Douglas Labun posted 15 Mar 2004 | Buying wire | I am looking for a quality, but cheap CAT5e wire. Do you recommend any specific brand or supplier. I am using this wire in a school building that was built in 1965. | | Answer by Dmitri Abaimov posted 17 Mar 2004 | Dear Douglas,
It does seem sometimes that quality and cheap do not go well with each other.
We did, however, have success in keeping costs down by using Berk-Tek's HYPER Plus 5E cable. This is what they call "minimal compliant" CAT5E cable, and in most cases it works just fine, leaving comfortable performance margin when tested. A lot of this cable goes into school jobs we do, so you may want to look at it, too.
I can only recommend suppliers we use, and lately it has almost exclusively been Accutech (http://www.accu-tech.com). You may want to check if they have an office that serves your area. Another choice would be Graybar (http://www.graybar.com). Those guys are all over the place, so in US you can normally find tem in any major city.
Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
