 Cat5 E + Cat6
Dear Sirs,

I have my flat wired up with Cat5 E cables, all ending up in a patchpanel. Can I then use Cat6 patchcables from my switch to the patchpanel?

Dear Magne,

That would not be a problem at all. You can use CAT6 patch cables on a CAT5E panel. There may be slightly higher return loss ( due to different attenuation of the cables), but I do not think it's going to be an issue since it is a residential (relatively short cables) installation.

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
