 Cat5 for external use
Can Cat5e UTP cable be used outside? or is it only internal cabling?

Dear Lee,

It is the material of the cable's jacket that's limiting the use to indoor, outdoor or both. Vast majority of CAT5E UTP cables on the market are for indoor use only. However, most cable manufacturers have at least one kind of outdoor-rated CAT5E cable available. So far we have used Commscope's amd Avaya's outdoor CAT5E cables, and you can find others that make it, too.

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
