Cat 5 Cable for RJ 11 Phone connection
My house is wired with Cat 5 cable for the phones. I want to use a junction box to have another phone jack on the main line. I can't figure out which 4 wires from the cat 5 cable to connect to the junction box.

Dear Bill,

If your jacks in the rooms are wired using standard color code (blue-white/blue is pair #1 and so on), then you have to connect the blue pair #1 in the junction box. Analog phones are always using this pair because it gets connected to the central pins insode the jack, which converge when you plug the phone set's RJ-11 plug into the RJ-45 jack.

Here is the color code for your reference: http://www.cabling-design.com/references/pinouts/t568ab.shtml

Sincerely,
