 Cat 5 and Electrical wire
Can you run a Cat 5 cable and electrical wire on the ceiling together?

Dear Tuan,

That depends on how you define "together": They can be run in the same cable tray/raceway, but they cannot share the same compartment of the cable tray or the raceway, plus they cannot be terminated in the same outlet box. Also, you obviously have to keep bundles of power and CAT5E cables separated when no tray or raceway is used. If there is a chance to move one a foot (~30 cm) from another, that would cover most situations. If that distance is not achievable, then you may want to use a document about the separation that we have on our site at E-books Section

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
