 Conduit Fill for Backbone Cable
Bicsi TDMM Chapter 5, page 26, Table 5.4

Why did the conduit fill rates change from:

One (1) cable 50% to 53%
Two (2) cables 50% to 31% and three or more cables stayed at 40%

Also,

Why is the conduit fill rate more for 3 or more cables that 2 cables?

Thanks,

Dan

Dear Dan,

This is just because one big round cable inside round conduit utilizes inner space less efficiently than several smaller cables. Actually you can look at the illustration in the TDMM, it's pretty self-explaining.

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
