 Cat5 vs Cat5E Plenum Rated
When did CAT5E plenum rated cable come on the market.
What year was the law past that required plenum rated cable under certain conditions.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Dear Bill,

I don't have issues of NEC (National Electrical Code) dated back to 80s or earlier to check when exactly the plenum requirement was established, but you can be sure Category 5 itself is (much) younger than the NEC's requirement to install specially rated cable in air handling areas.

I have AT&T Systimax book dated 93' and the industry's very first CAT5 plenum cable - 2061 is already there, UL Listed Type CMP/MPP. So, you can easily guess CAT5 plenum, cables are at least 10 years on the market.

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
