I have a spool of LG UTP Category 5 unshielded twisted pair - can I use it outdoors (up the side of my house? Thanks

Dear Joe,

Most likely this cable is indoor type and it does not suppose to be presented to the outdoor extremes like low temperature, humidity, UV etc. However, it will survive for about 2-3 years. maybe more if you're lucky. So, just elaborate on that and if this application is not really mission-critical, use the cable you have and plan to buy some more in 3 years time frame.
If it's placed along the building's wall, you don't need to install any lightning protection.

If you need this link to last, you would have to use special outdoor CAT5 cable. Check Commscope Avaya or Superior Essex websites for the part numbers.
