Dear Michelle,
The modern Token Ring implementation assumes twisted pair (UTP) CAT5 cabling as the base for the physical network infrastructure. Besides, the network itself looks like a star, since the Multistation Access Unit (MAU) connects devices to the ring, and its functionality resembles Ethernet hub for some extent.

To connect the ring itself to anywhere, including Internet, there should be bridge/router device used. This is to connect Token Ring network to the network with different protocol.

With best regards,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
