How can I install my cellphone to my Burglar Alarm at home ? My alarm company can do this for me, but for a steep price. In my voip setup, everything would go dead if the outside wires were cut and the alarm battery died. Even if the battery were good, it wouldn't call the monitoring center. There has to be a way to connect a normal cellphone to a burglar alarm, but I can see that the only problem would be the cellphone to RJ11 connection.

Dear Paul, In order to make the cellphone dial anywhere a specialized interface to the security control panel is required, which is exactly where the bulk of the price you've been quoted is. It is not just a matter of mastering an adapter. An active piece of electronics which would only work with certain phones is going to be needed. I would order a cheap, stripped of all services phone line (land line) just to hook the security panel up to it. Sincerely, Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
