We are currently using Cat5 wiring. We are building a new site in which we are/were going to install Cat5ex. Are the standards and specs. compatible with Cat5 so that we may use our existing NICs and Component ports (Cisco Equipment)?

Dear Jeffrey,

You may perfectly use CAT5E with you existing equipment because the purpose of the 'E' spec was to ensure backwards compatibility with CAT5 while supporting new (namely, Gigabit Ethernet) application.

Sincerely,
Dmitri Abaimov, RCDD
