I've read that RG-59 siamese cable can be used for cctv but I wonder if cat5e can also be used to carry not only the video signal but also 9v power as well.

Dear David,

There are camera that do connect directly to UTP category 5e cable but there are distance limitations due to voltage drop on the 24 AWG conductors. Contact your supplier of the sucurity equipment for more information on this.
