 4 pair standard
What standards functionally use all four pairs besides Gigabit Ethernet 1000BaseT?
Answer by Joseph Golan posted 02 Sep 2005
Dear Ben,

This is most common use today. 10 Gigabit is in developement. Other applications use pairs other then 2 & 3 (used for 10 & 100BaseT). The concept behind this "structured" cabling is just that, so the cable can be used with any service without change to the pinouts.
