 Tone generator
I need to trace some Cat 5e cables to ports in my patch panel. The cables go from the patch panel and end in a male RJ45 connector. I have a Progressive tone and probe generator, but it doesn't have a female RJ45, just alligator clips and a male RJ11 end. I've seen experts make a female RJ45 connector hook up to the alligator clips so that you can trace it. How do I build this? Thanks!

Dear V,

You have 2 choices here, take a 8 pin modular jack and pigtail it to the alligator clips or buy an 8 pin modular coupler (Female-Female) and plug your tone generator into one side and the other side use to plug in your 8 pin modular plugs, I prefer the coupler method and they are only a few bucks.

Sincerely,
