Dear Don,

Depending on the length of the span, this can be accomplished using a support cable otherwise known as "strand". The support cables are attached to structure with support "eyes" and the category 5 cable can be attached to it using lashing or support rings. The lashing should loose enough as to not distort that cable jacket and the spacing of rings, if used, should be close enoungh to prevent sagging of the cable.

Most outdoor rated cables are not suitable for installation in buildings. Check with your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) on local codes limiting installation of this cables within a building and proper protection (lightning, etc.).

There a number of "protector" type products available for category 5 cable in 4 pair increments.

Sincerely,
Joseph Golan, RCDD
