| Question by frank nonga posted 18 Jan 2005 | RJ 45 terminator | Rj 45 terminator has 8 pins and only 4 are useful, why having 8 pins while 4 areactually useful? | | Answer by Joseph Golan posted 14 Feb 2005 | Dear frank,
What you have there is structured cabling which will serve various applications. While 10BaseT and 100BaseT both only use four conductors (Pin s 1, 2, 3 & 6, 1000BaseT will use all 8. Also telephone service is normally delivered on pins 4 & 5. The whole idea is that the cable can be used for any service up to it's electrical category.
Sincerely,
Joseph Golan, RCDD
